Over the past eight years, Tamid Chowdhury has been a shining example of leadership, dedication, and resilience within BGC South Coast BC. Starting out as a Club member, he has grown into an active volunteer, supporting after-school and daycare programs while participating in initiatives that build both personal and community strength.
Among the many programs he’s engaged with, Raise the Grade—a multi-faceted education program—has fueled his academic growth, while Creating Connections has given him a platform to engage in open conversations around mental health, the importance of self-care, and making positive life choices.
Beyond the Club, Tamid embodies the spirit of a student-athlete who leads by example. At Vancouver Technical Secondary School, he uses his leadership skills to help peers strike a balance between academics and extracurriculars. As part of his school’s Athletic Council, he takes on responsibilities that range from planning sporting events and fundraising initiatives to keeping students connected through social media updates. His contributions extend even further, as he volunteers with non-profits and takes an active role in local cultural and religious associations—proving his commitment to building stronger, more inclusive communities.
His leadership has not gone unnoticed. Tamid was named BGC Regional Youth of the Year in 2023 and, in 2025, was recognized as a Beedie Luminaries Scholar, one of the most prestigious awards for youth leaders in British Columbia. As one of BGC Canada’s Youth of the Year, he has committed to amplifying the voices of equity-seeking youth, fostering belonging, and serving as a role model for the next generation.
Supporting Tamid as he navigated meetings and scholarship opportunities was an honour. When he achieved the Beedie Luminaries scholarship, his gratitude reminded me that mentorship is about more than guidance—it’s about helping young people see their own potential. In his words:
“All thanks to you, Stephanie! This means so much to me and my family. I truly appreciate all your help and am inspired by your leadership.”

Tamid’s story is not just one of achievement but of heart, service, and vision for a better future. His journey reminds us that when young people are given opportunities, mentorship, and encouragement, they can create ripples of positive change in their communities and beyond.
